Back to School with Firelight Media and "Tell Them We Are Rising"

Michon Boston Group is working with Firelight Media to coordinate the grantsmanship program for 10 public media stations to present campus screenings with HBCUs (Historical Black Colleges and Universities), and produce original content to promote the national broadcast of Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities. Directed by MacArthur Genius Grant fellow Stanley Nelson (The Black PanthersFreedom RidersFreedom SummerTell Them We Are Rising premieres on the PBS series “Independent Lens” February 19, 2018.

Tell Them We Are Rising is the centerpiece of a yearlong multi-platform effort called HBCU Rising featuring partnerships with national organizations, exclusive events, StoryCorps audio stories, video shorts, college tour and a crowdsourced HBCU Digital Yearbook. HBCU Rising will examine and celebrate the achievements of HBCUs’ graduates before and after the PBS broadcast.

Beginning with the earliest attempts at education to today’s campuses, Tell Them We Are Rising examines the impact HBCUs have had on American history, culture, and national identity.
