Ep. 12 - What We Love About JULIA
HBO Max's Julia is inspired by Julia Child's extraordinary life and her long running public television series, The French Chef, which pioneered the modern cooking show. The French Chef launched in 1963 on WGBH in Boston.
In this podcast, The Boston Sisters (Michon and Taquiena) riff on impressions of the HBO Max series and Julia Child's impact on American cooks, public television, and our own palates with restaurant consultant and wine expert, Janet Cam. This podcast explores food, culture, and identity as examples of the "joie de vivre" that Julia Child inspired through her cooking shows and cook books as well as how her life demonstrates that it's never too late to become who you are meant to be.

Created by Daniel Goldfarb (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), HBO Max’s Julia is inspired by Julia Child’s extraordinary life and her long-running public television series, The French Chef, which pioneered the modern cooking show. Through Julia’s life and her singular joie de vivre, the series explores a pivotal time in American history – the emergence of public television as a new social institution, feminism and the women’s movement, the nature of celebrity and America’s cultural evolution. At its heart, the series is a portrait of a loving marriage with a shifting power dynamic as Paul Child is forced to retire from the foreign service; and Julia Child’s star rises following the publication of her signature cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”
